    Most yoga teachers and health professionals are misguiding clamshells

    Clamshells are a really common hip exercise provided by a lot of rehabilitative professionals. 

    The goal of clam shells is often to strengthen the muscles in and around the hip and glute area. But many people who are doing clamshells, are compensating for other issues.

    And when someone continues to push through compensation patterns, the body actually weakens. It doesn’t get stronger like you want it to.

    So when clamshells aren’t done as they are intended, people are still left experiencing pain, and wondering why.

    So many people are doing clamshells in a way that doesn’t support their hip function or support them in reducing and eradicating pain. And no one is telling them otherwise!

    Until today . . . 

    When you can show your clients or yoga students when and how they are compensating, you not only can retrain the body to compensate less . . . but you also teach your clients/students how to become aware of their movements and what they’re feeling in their body.

    And when you can help people connect to the awareness of what’s going on in their body in a way that’s meaningful for them, then they can take that awareness into their process of recovery. This is when healing truly starts to happen.
