Neck pain appears behind the ears or jaw, distracting someone from their work.
It sits at the base of the occiputin scalenes or sternocleidomastoid, making it difficult to swivel their head to watch their grandkid’s hockey game.
And what about those stressful knots in the trapezius or levator scapula?
Neck pain travels up the head, around the skull and between the shoulder blades. Which often leads to sleepless nights, frustration, and lacking concentration.
The only thing on your mind is . . .
If you are a yoga teacher, you’ve likely had students come to you saying they can’t do certain poses. Even the ear-to-shoulder pose doesn’t do the trick to alleviate their pain.
If you’re a massage therapist, you likely see at least one person a day who has neck pain. Massaging out the knots worked for one session but they’re still coming back to you expressing ongoing, agonizing neck pain.
If you’re a physiotherapist, you cringe when you suggest the neck roll, fully knowing that it will only provide milliseconds of relief (if at all).
Perhaps you have a kink in your neck that hasn’t budged. All your training in supporting other people and their pain has still left you questioning how you can help yourself.
The isolation exercises you provide your student or client – like pulling the chin back or specific neck stretches – aren’t working.
You’ve tried releasing the tissue around the neck and opening up the chest, but it’s only providing temporary relief.
In the pain management world, they tell their clients how to manage their neck pain.
What if instead of just dealing with it, we got to the root of the neck pain and unravelled neck issues, once and for all?
Perhaps the reason you haven’t been able to solve your client or student’s neck pain is because you aren’t solving the problem that actually exists.
There is a key piece to helping your clients and students that you may not be doing. It’s what may be holding you back from truly resolving your client or student’s neck pain.
You must become aware and get clear on what is working and is not working.
You need to solve the problem that exists, not the program you think exists.
When you step back and look at the whole body, and in particular, these two key body parts, you will begin to unwind and unravel the neck.
I have seen this in all of my clients. 100% of my clients that come to me with feet pain, have issues with their hips or pelvis.
And the same is said for clients with neck pain.
In fact, these 2 principles to neck pain aren’t taught in yoga teacher training, massage, PT or OT schooling. It is what makes yoga therapy so special.
By blending anatomy and biomechanics with the ancient traditions of yoga, nidra and breath, you will discover ways to move your client or student with neck pain. And help reduce and eradicate their pain.
It will brace, grip, and hold tension in order to provide support when other body parts aren’t functioning well.
But the support is inadequate, ineffective, and shields you from what the actual issue is.
Over time, these compensation patterns become habitual patterns making it more and more difficult to find a resolution.
This is why you often are chasing symptoms. You’re able to provide you client or student superficial relief but not sustainable gains … no matter what adjustments, specialized exercises, and interesting sequences you provide.
I am Susi Hately, your Instructor
I help people improve the relationship between their body, mind and breath, and have been training yoga teachers and health professionals how to do the same for over 25 years.
With a background in Kinesiology, I blend science-based biomechanics and anatomy with the ancient wisdom of yoga to help you gain awareness and clarity on what your body is whispering to you. Once you are aware of what happens in your own body, you can translate that to your students and clients to help them move and feel better.
The key characteristic amongst my clients who were in pain was a pattern of tension that they either had no clue existed, or didn’t know how to resolve.
When they were able to recognize and address this pattern of tension, they had longer lasting success.
"Susi solves problems that western medicine can't solve. Her unique gift is she is able to encourage and help me make changes when she knows I am ready to make that change (even when I am not sure myself). She is a pioneer in the areas of movement, longevity, and again - she is translating an ancient language of yoga into a language that the western world can understand - and that is global impact."

In this 4-day program, you’ll deepen your awareness and understanding and learn how to tune into your body’s feedback, so you can create real and lasting results for your clients, students or yourself.
You will learn about the most common compensation patterns I have seen over my 25 years of helping people recover from neck issues. Discover how to identify these compensation patterns in yourself and correct them for better movement and long-term change.
"Susi is an exceptional coach. If you want to work with one of the best, if you want to work with someone who really wants you to succeed, if you want to work with someone who truly walks the walk and talks the talk, work with Susi. She really knows what she is doing."

This program has 5 IAYT CE Credits, and we are working on getting it approved with NCBTMB.
When you connect better movement with the tongue… it can impact your ability to release tight, or strained tissue elsewhere in the body!
